How do we grow our capacity for developing new ideas?

Often I catch myself and our team running at such a high level of busyness that we don’t have any capacity to create new ideas or develop ones that we’ve come up with. Those great ideas that have immense potential get laid aside in order to pursue the day to day operations of life, ministry, leadership, etc.

Google gives employees 20% of their time to develop new ideas. They call it “innovation time off”. I think it’s worked out all right for them

Andy Stanley put’s it like this…“To reach people that no one is reaching, we have to do things that no one else is doing”

What can we do to increase our capacity for innovation (personally and corporately)?

I was trained that when people come to you asking for missional training, you know you have the beginnings of a movement.

Recently, I attended the MinistryNet conference.  It was designed to help build capacity in integrating digital strategy into our mission of helping students discover Jesus.

In an online community started after the conference, one attendee wrote,

I have more than 300 committed Christians whom I recruited from Facebook after MinistryNet to train in e-ministry. I really don’t know what to do with these many people. I want to train them… Please give me suggestions.

I’m encouraged by how the combination of vision from a physical conference and the viral-ness of social networks can mobilize people to a worthwhile cause so quickly.
