A great photo attracts readers to read your blog post, but how do you get them to come visit you and engage in conversation in the first place?

One of the best ways to find readers is to write on the subjects that everyone is talking about currently.

What’s trending?

As I write this post, popular topics are related to Hurricane Irene, the U. S. Open, and Gadhafi.   (As you know, an earthquake and a hurricane hit the East Coast this past week.  Did you turn this topic into a spiritual conversation on your blog, on Facebook, or on Twitter?)

If you don’t know what topics are popular, go to:

  • Google Trends to discover what the current top Google searches are.
  • Nibbo  for trending topics on Google, Bing, Twitter, and more (try the options and search specific languages and countries, too.)
  • What the Trend shows what’s trending on Twitter and why.  You can  narrow the trends down to specific countries and cities.  They’ll also send trend alerts to you through Twitter and / or to your Facebook news feed if ...

The second blog tour for eQuipping for eMinistry is now over.  I plan to do this every spring.   Thanks to all who participated!   I hope everyone had as much fun as I did with the tour.   If you missed part of the tour, click here to read some great posts by Campus Crusade for Christ staff.

This year I sent weekly eMail reminders of the blog tour.  I felt this was a good addition for the tour, summarizing the previous week’s tour stops.  If you would like to receive this eMail for the next tour, sign up for the blog tour eMail alerts.

You Can Help Improve the Blog Tour
  • What did you like about the tour?
  • Did you begin following a CCC staff blog because of the tour?
  • What suggestions do you have to make the tour even better?
  • Should I restrict the length of the tour or the number of entries?
  • Should I post a new “tour stop” daily?

The bimonthly “e4e online newspaper” features a great selection of posts from Campus Crusade for Christ staff women and is one of our most-clicked sites.  I usually select up to five posts from the past two months and look for a theme.

In this issue:
• Leaha gives us a fresh look at faith and fear.
• We can know Jesus for who He really is, especially through suffering.
• What you could do if you feel “the body of Christ appears so lethargic and distracted?”
• Learn about how you can help persecuted Christians.

You’ll encourage our staff authors by visiting their sites and commenting there.

Comment here if you’d like to give some feedback on the Global Staff Women’s Shared Items. (I can’t rename it, by the way).

I hope you’re alert to the opportunities that God gives us through the topics that are buzzing on the internet. Here’s some ways to join in and shed some Truth and Light in cyberspace…

What’s hot?

Check these sites to see what today’s big topics are.  You may know already as we’ve had lots of big news items the past month or two.  Otherwise, go to:

  • Google Trends to discover what the current top Google searches are
  • Nibbo  is very current for Google, Bing, Twitter, and more (try the options and search specific languages and countries, too)
  • Twitter Search (the words and hashtags are popular on Twitter today)

If you don’t know what to write, these sites may be just the spark you need for a post idea.  Be sure to use those same search names in your post’s tags so that people will find your site.

As an example, here’s my post today to comment on the buzz about the end of the world predicted by Harold Camping’s Family Radio ministry for May 21st, 2011.  I didn’t have a lot of time and wanted to ge...
