No, I’m not talking about a moustache, but something much more significant! Pictured is Andrew, one of our up-and-coming CSLs (Committed Student Leaders) for 2012. At our recent CSL Thank You and Welcome Event, Enoch interviewed him about why he wants to be a CSL, and his answer is evidence of The Big Mo in action!

CSLs lead other students in Action Groups, and teach them how to share their faith. At the beginning of the year, we had 18. For next year, we have at least 30! This is clear evidence of momentum, key because it’s required to get others involved in bringing the good news to our campus. Not only do CSLs share their faith, but they help raise up future leaders to do the same!

Counting the number of people we share the gospel with, our aim is to have at least 30% of those conversations initiated by a CSL. Without CSLs, our movement wouldn’t be the same; we’re very grateful for students like Andrew giving up 4 hours a week during their busy study schedules! His answer to why he wants to be a CSL?

The Big Mo

No, I'm not talking about a moustache, but something much more significant! Pictured is Andrew, one of our up-and-coming CSLs (Committed Student Leaders) for 2012. The future has curly hair and glasses. He studies physics and maths, and his name is Sean.

Without Sean, a CSL (committed student leader), our movement wouldn’t be what it is. People like him reach out to those that I can’t reach!

He enjoys being a CSL because “It gives an opportunity to be more involved in reaching out, and puts me in a position to encourage others.” He does this well; it’s his third year as a CSL! I asked him about the challenges of being a leader and sharing his faith, he said, “It’s easy to not have the time to share, not to prioritise it. But it’s so important! People often dismiss the truth about Christ based on what they’ve heard from others, without little or no thought of their own. They may even dismiss truth itself.”

Sean is a great example of someone taking what he learns and putting it into practice. That effects not only those he shares with, but me too! As his leader I’ve been encouraged by the way he lives out his faith, and the fact that he evidently puts God first. It enco...

“But slowly but surely, our lives, businesses and society are in the process of a wholesale reconfiguration in the way we perceive and apply technology.” – Ray Ozzie

Thanks to friends Keith and Brian for the heads up on two foundational articles non-profit operational leaders should be thinking about.  These are especially important for those who like to think about technological accelerators.  Set aside 30 minutes to simmer on their ideas.

Ray Ozzie on the dawn of a new day and what a post-PC world will be like.  [Lengthy, but interesting]

  • A post-PC world based on a combination of Continuous Services and Connected Devices (see Keith’s summary)
  • Tomorrow’s experiences will be inherently transmedia & trans-device
  • Ray sees, “an expansive future… a future of amazing, pervasive cloud-centric experiences delivered through a world of innovative devices that surround us.”

Don Dodge on the next big thing [5-7 minute read, very practical]

  • Mobile – billions of connected devices, carried everywhere we go
  • Brow...

I enjoyed watching Tim O’Reilly’s keynote at the Web 2.0 Expo on the State of the Internet Operating System.  He made a comment at 6:00-6:23 that really resonated with me.

He quoted Ray Kurzweil who said, ”I became interested in long-term trends because an invention has to make sense in the world in which it is finished, not the world in which it is started.”

Tim explained, “In other words, if you invent for the world that exists now, you are behind the curve.”

A few ideas that came to mind on how I could lead my team in designing for the future.

  • Buy each team member an Android-powered device and tell them to make our mission happen using these devices
  • Buy each team member an iPad and have them use them for fundraising presentations.
  • Ban the use of corporate email for a week and tell the team to get their regular job done.
  • Create a donation system that does not accept credit card payments.
  • Make sure our mission can be engaged completely through social media.

I realized that even as I brainstormed, many...
