Does your laptop battery die out halfway through a meeting?  (I just spent over $100 to replace a laptop battery that was only good for twenty minutes!)

Today, I’ll share some tips to keep your camera, phone, and laptop batteries running longer and at “full capacity,” saving you money.  (To understand batteries better, you might want to read this entire post and the recommended reading at the end.)

All Batteries

The “low” indicator doesn’t mean low power.  It’s more of a “time left” indicator. You probably should avoid draining your battery ALL the way down EVERY time, just go to a low level.

If your charger doesn’t shut off when it’s done, charge your battery during the day so you don’t overcharge it.  Otherwise, leaving the battery on your charger overnight is okay.

Camera Batteries

If you know you’ll be taking a lot of pictures, or are really depending on your camera to make it through the whole event, or the whole day, be sure to charge your camera battery ahead of time, o...

If you have a mobile phone, you might be interested in downloading the free Google Goggles app, especially (but not necessarily) if you do a lot of traveling.

This mobile app allows you to do searches with images.   You take a photo of something and then search:

  • in order to locate information about a book on the internet
  • to identify a landmark
  • to translate an item on a menu
  • to identify products and artwork

You can also take a photo of a business card and move the information to the contact list on your phone.

How are you using Google Goggles?

Several of you have asked about Toby. Where would we be without your prayers, incredible compassion and sharing with us during this season of life?  THANK YOU a thousand times for your kindness!

As you know, Toby was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in early June.  This was a surprise to us.  No one in our family has Type 1.  This disease is triggered genetically – there was nothing we should have or could have done to prevent it.  Basically it means Toby’s pancreas has stopped producing insulin – which allows your blood to change glucose into energy for your body.

It’s been an adjustment.  But the Lord’s grace has been beyond sufficient. This is a disease that’s very manageable by insulin injections – usually 2 or occasionally 3 daily.

378 = estimated number of shots Toby’s received since June 9th.

Yes, Shannon and I’ve learned to give shots.  And quickly. It is much better if you just do it fast and get it over with.  In the last couple of weeks he has grown a little more nervous when it’s inject...

Videos, photos, and notes are a great way for any Christian ministry, church, or movement to further engage, connect, and start conversations with people on Facebook. For example, you could share photos and videos from a recent community outreach, and invite people to comment and tag people they know in the photos. By doing so, not only are you connecting with people already involved in your ministry, but you’re also giving your ministry a chance to appear in their newsfeeds so that their friends can possibly connect with you.

I use this stationery when I want to add a personal note in a prayer letter or in a greeting card. (See related posts below).

Follow this step-by-step guide to make one of your own.

The Most Difficult Step Is First

That is, getting your adult children willingly all in one place for some photos where everyone is smiling and not squinting or blinking. Okay, I’m joking. I remember, too, the younger-children time period could be more challenging at times.

Of course, you could choose to do a photo of your team on campus or on a recent project.

Set up the Stationery

My document has the following. You may choose to do this slightly differently.
• Narrow margins
• Landscape page orientation
• Two columns ( I print two half sheets per page)

The photo is centered and formatted in line with the text.

Type in the text above and below the photo and… you’re not done yet! Your project will look something like this next photo because the colors and fonts still need to be set to the official Campus Crusade ...
