Have you ever thought of praying for the unreached with others from around the world on Skype?

Check out Unreached Prayer Initiative.

Could be a great way to cast vision for your team and join one of these times.

Do you know any other internet-telephone based prayer groups?

Meet e4e author Russ Martin and read Russ’s posts on e4e.

My office is located on the 5th floor at Holy City Center building. Always via the window I see the beautiful mountains and green areas which surrounds Northern Addis.

The words of Isaiah 40:9 have been a very real picture:

“You who bring good news, go up on a high mountain.
You who bring good news,
lift up your voice with a shout,
lift it up, do not be afraid;
  Say to the towns, ‘Here is your God!’”

God was telling them to use what he had provided to accomplish his purposes. Use the high mountains to shout “Here is your God!”

During our time as God’s ambassador’s, God has given us the gift of the Internet: social networks (Facebook, Twitter), simple websites (WordPress, Blogger), video and audio (YouTube, Vimeo), inexpensive phone (Skype).

God is telling us:

  • Use these things God has provided
  • Lift up your voice. Be bold. Be “loud” in embracing these opportunities.
  • Do not be afraid
  • Show God to everyone

As one church leader said, inhabit the digital universe with a believing he...

It’s that time of year again; the time when our grown children pack their suitcases for summer studies or summer projects.  Husbands kiss their wives and children before embarking on a short-term summer assignment.  And as mothers and wives we maintain the home until our loved ones return, sometimes with a cheerful heart, other times with a heavy heart.  So like the Proverbs 31 woman, we clothe our loved ones in scarlet, we bathe them in prayer, but what is a tangible way we can let them know they are missed?

The woman in Proverbs 31:26-29 lives her life in this way, “She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.  She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.  Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.’”  One way to reflect the description of the Godly woman in the lives of our traveling families is through “A Traveler’s Keepsake”.  It...

I’ve recently journeyed with a group of 12 leaders transitioning from a model of meeting over conference calls, to meeting over Skype.

Here a few learnings.

  • Group Chat – It’s very powerful that anybody can say anything at any time without interrupting the main conversation.  This can range from something as simple as “I agree with Tony’s point” to “@melinda, please go on mute” to “I have some reservations about this, could I have a chance to push back?”  This allows for engagement of the entire group without high overhead and actually helps me pay better attention.
  • Private Chat – I’ve found I’m frequently dialoguing privately with other team members on the call.  It might be a point of encouragement, a point of clarification or help with a technical issue or pointing them to some supporting information or documents.  This is really efficient because we don’t have to send emails outside the meeting or meet separately but instead can efficiently collaborate during the ebb and flow of the main meeting....

Discipleship with Skype::

Recently I overheard a new phrase from some of our overseas missionaries:  “Skypleship.”   Discipleship is happening in amazing, fruitful ever increasing ways through Skype – a software tool which allows people to talk face to face over the internet for free.

Skypleship is most likely happening right now, across many time zone and country boundaries. At a conference called MinistryNet – which our team sponsored several months ago, our staff in Central Asia shared how they have used Skypleship as a filtering strategy as well as a means to interact with disciples.

Several times a month, staff spend a half an hour or so searching for Skype contacts in particular cities (Skype users may choose to be “listed” in a directory of sorts, showing as much or little contact information as they wish – such as location).  Like a phone book, once you find another Skype user you want to communicate with, you send a request to that person and, if they accept, you can just push the “CALL” butt...
