[Today’s post is part of a monthly series featuring Keynote alumni in their current roles.]

In the summer of 1978, Gary Combs decided to go on a summer project with the Music Ministry (Keynote) of Campus Crusade for Christ. Little did he know that summer would not only impact his life, but the life of his son, Stephen. When Stephen was thinking about his summer plans in 2003, he naturally thought of Keynote. Recently, Stephen told us a little more about his journey and how God has been using what he learned that summer in his current role as Worship Pastor of Wilson Community Church.

“I first heard about Keynote Summer Project through my dad. He always spoke so fondly of his memories with the ministry there, and I had hopes that I would be able to go on a summer project with Keynote ever since I was a kid.

Being a part of Keynote and seeing how passionate the staff were about their lives and walk with God was very inspiring to me. Something that stuck with me from that day was when one of the staff said,...

Mobile computing has made sharing video and film content easier than ever before. You can share a video on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Vimeo and many more places. The door is also wide open for creating great content that can open dialog about life, God and the meaning of life.

Keynote has been engaged in creating short films that can be used in various contexts to create interest in spiritual things. The 2011 Keynote Summer Project hosted a film track where students learned about film, communication and using their platform for ministry. The result was a short film about emotional honesty called “The Audition.”

The students put together a short-film outreach using “The Audition” in context with several other films. The July 2011 edition of the Ivy League Christian Observer contains an article about one of our 2011 Keynote Summer Project students, Derek Vance. If you stopped by our blog during the project, then you probably read some of Derek’s post about how God was working in and through the students.

This was Derek’s second Summer Project with Keynote which gave him a great perspective of the entire ministry. You can read the article (“Hitting a Keynote” on page 24) below. Click to enlarge.

The 2011 Summer Project has come and gone. While the equipment has been put away, the students have gone home and the staff have moved on to the next project, the lasting impact of this year’s project is just beginning.

By the Numbers (Keynote and Impact combined)

  • 5 Outreach teams
  • 38 students
  • 13,700 miles traveled
  • 52 events
  • 5,033 evangelistic exposures
  • 311 people indicated a decision to trust Christ

At the final event last week many students shared about the impact the project had on their lives. For some it was a time to overcome the fear of telling others about Jesus; others wrestled with apprehension about performing in prisons; still others needed to see God move in amazing ways to deepen their understanding of His purpose. As always, God was faithful to do a work, not only the lives of our students, but also in the lives of hundreds who heard about the hope that can be found in a personal relationship with God. He offers forgiveness and a chance to begin a new life.

For the second time, Keynote host...

Anna, a singer/songwriter from Texas, is one of the students participating in the Keynote Summer Project. She’s currently on tour with Swerve as one of their vocalists, and is getting to see the lengths that God goes to in order to reach people with His love.

Now, anyone who’s ever been a Keynote artist will tell you that if you’ve been on the road long enough, you’ll experience your fair share of strange and unique concerts. On their first prison concert though, Swerve may have just experienced one for the ages.

Check out a snippet of Anna’s blog below to read her account of how Swerve performed a concert for two cell blocks, at the same time, while remaining mostly unseen.
