If you’re interested in YouVersion or in what you might need to consider when putting together a mobile app for ministy, watch this seven-minute interview, Jesus IS Bigger Than Angry Birds, by  TechCrunch with YouVersion’s founder, Bobby Gruenewald.

Takeways:

- YouVersion has positioned itself as a “Bible engagement” tool and “interactive” app

- YouVersion measures ‘everything’ including amount of time the app is open

- YouVersion has positioned itself as a cause (they are trying to get people to read the Bible)

- YouVersion thinks that if something is on a mobile device, it’s more a part of your life

- YouVersion thinks there are many more mobile apps in this ‘religious’ mobile space.

Interesting.  What take-aways do you have about how YouVersion is helping people connect with God?

The Motion Computing F5v is an impressive computer that just might be the solution for your ministry.  If you work:

  • outdoors
  • in remote locations
  • in a field clinic
  • in a warehouse with inventory
  • at a conference

Perhaps our FamilyLife, GAiN and JESUS Film ministries, as well as others, could use a rugged tablet like this.

The computer has a touch screen or you can use a dgitized pen on the screen. The Motion Computing F5v can handle different weather conditions and is readable in bright sunlight.  It has a Gorilla® Glass screen and a rugged body with a handle.

I was impressed that you can swap your first battery with a charged second battery without shutting down.

Optionally, it can come with:

  • a magnetic stripe reader
  • an RFID reader
  • cameras
  • a bar code scanner

It’s Windows-based which would be important for accessing Campus Crusade for Christ systems, such as PeopleSoft.

Did you know April 29th is Internet Evangelism Day?  In fact, the entire month of April is Digital Outreach Month.

Are you doing anything on the internet to reach out to people with the love of Christ? Whether or not you already are, why not pick up a new idea this week?

  • Learn more about Internet Evangelism Day and find a lot of ideas and great resources (see important notes about free downloads this week and a chance to win two books).
  • Curt signed up to be an online missionary with Global Media Outreach. Have you?
  • Did you know you can specifically request to answer eMails received from women who are seeking God?
  • Check out these creative ideas from EveryStudent.com for sharing your faith.  (I’ll make myself accountable to you, I’m very interested in trying this idea in particular: it’s a mini-survey where you gather eMail addresses and send requested evangelistic articles to people.)

Ink cartridges sure are pricey!  I read that ink costs $10,000 per gallon!  Wow! When I look at it that way, it means I may want to start re-thinking what I’m doing.

And let’s face it, eMinistry does cost money when you look at the cost of hardware, software, internet service, printers, and ink.

Cartridges

I prefer brand name cartridges, but you can save a lot with off-brands and refilling your cartridges.   You’ll just need to determine if the quality of the printing is affected  by using a generic.  If so, is this change in quality important for the kind of printing you do?

By the way, don’t believe that “low ink” warning.  I use an economical setting for most of my unimportant print jobs, so I’m printing for maybe three times longer than my indicator says I should.  I wait until the ink actually is used up.  Some suggest shaking a cartridge when the printouts are fading (I’d do this with a plastic bag around the cartridge). Re-insert the cartridge and see if it makes your cartridge last a littl...

It’s easy to read books on your computer or mobile device. Especially if you travel or like to have something to read while waiting for appointments, reading  on the go can be a great way to catch up with books.

Classics

Many classic books are in the public domain and available for free.  Correct me if I’m wrong, but the books I see on internet sites seem to be in PDF format (which is okay – see note) while your local library may offer the book in a more readable eBook format.

Free eBooks from Bloggers

Bloggers and other internet sites may offer free eBooks, like Michael Hyatt of Thomas Nelson publishers.  He offers Creating a Personal Life Plan if you sign up for eMail updates to his blog (which I recommend).

Are you offering a free book from your site?

But I don’t have a Kindle

Not a problem.  Amazon wants you to buy their eBooks, so they offer a free app. You don’t need to own a Kindle; you can read Kindle books on your desktop, laptop, smartphone, or tablet, using...
