Last week while I was at the GLAMMM (Global Leaders in Arts, Music and Media Ministries) conference in Singapore I got a chance to visit Singapore CCC’s Mass Media bookstore. I felt like a kid in a candy store but with only 30 minutes shopping was quick and targetted. I picked up Tim Keller’s latest (Counterfeit Gods) and the two new volumes of Next Manga’s Bible project (I already had the first two and there’s one more to come).

When I got home, Zac saw the manga and was all over them “Comics! Cool!” He started reading them straight away and soon was asking questions like ‘What’s a virgin?” (“I’ll tell you when the others have gone to bed”) and “How many babies did Herod kill? More than 1000?” (Probably not that many.)

It drove the point home of how attractive this form of media is to this generation. Zac read through all four volumes in three days! To put that in context he only read one chapter of Voyage of the Dawntreader before he was looking for something else to do. Reading the Bible – he can’t ...

In 1776 two world-changing works were written, the American Declaration of Independence and Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations. However, the writers of both of these pieces were probably not even aware that the other had been written until the next year. When Japan bombed Pearl Harbour, the next day president Roosevelt made an announcement on radio. However in this generation things are different. We all watched together with horror as the World Trade Center towers crashed to the ground, and when the plane crash-landed into the Hudson River in New York last year, someone on one of the nearby boats sent a twitter message from their phone which was relayed around the world alerting media and others to this event. Now we can know what is happening around the world instantly. Young people today are saturated with information. They are still people with the same intrinsic and spiritual needs as anyone else, but the methods needed to reach these people are going to differ from the methods needed to reach the gener...
