The lowly computer mouse has changed over the years. You may not have all the features I’ll mention or you may have more.

Cleaning

If you have an older mouse with a tracking ball to roll around your mouse pad, you know how frustrating it can be when the cursor doesn’t move freely across your screen because lint and dust have built up inside your mouse. It’s easy to fix. Wait until your computer is off before taking these steps:

  1. Unscrew the plastic circle that holds the ball inside the mouse.
  2. After the ball drops out, notice the delicate roller bars inside.  Chances are lint is glued on to these bars, like little felt pads.
  3. Moisten a Q-Tip swab with rubbing alcohol and gently dab at the dirty bars to moisten and loosen the lint.
  4. The lint will come off like a little piece of dark felt.

As I swim through a clear blue rooftop pool in the heart of Washington, D.C., I feel a sudden inspiration to write.  The topic, appropriately titled “The Swimmer” floods my mind.  But I realize the pool merely poses as a threat to the familiar and yet seemingly archaic paper and pen.  A sudden splash could submerge my vulnerable ramblings in a watery grave.  So I scan the pool deck before spotting my cell phone.  Then I climb aboard to a fairly dry landing and begin to text my latest blog entry before saving it into “drafts”.  If I were more up to date, I could save this fleeting inspiration in the notes of an iPhone.  But in the meantime I text and save, text and save only to publish this poolside inspiration on my blog at a later time:

The Swimmer

She swims in unfamiliar places, from shallow water to deep, navigating her way through a new world.  But although her world is new, she knows it is right, so she keeps diving deeper.

“Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your...

I never heard of a mobile broadband (MiFi).  I didn’t know the office had one either, but it sure was a lifesaver for our MPD trip!  Also, I had just started the blog tour for e4e and needed to blog several times during our ten-day trip.  However, it looked like we would not have internet service for nine days.  So, I started to write and schedule my blogs to publish while we were travelling when Mike came home with a MiFi device,  a portable hot spot. You can see it’s smaller than a deck of cards.

So, I was able to check email and blog a bit, while keeping the blog tour on schedule.  I had been working hard to get ready for a trip that I thought would have no internet at all and ended up having wireless!  I had no idea!

Our office bought this device and the monthly service for our supported staff to use on MPD trips.  Having this wireless device really worked well for us because I schedule most of the appointments for our MPD trips using email.  We had not heard back from everyone before we le...
