Are you aware of the internet ministry of OneforIsrael.org? Their vision “is to reach the entire nation of Israel with the gospel of Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus Christ) through media & online.”

Here’s a few facts from their site:

  • Israel is the leading country in the world for hourly time spent online and also number one in the world in the amount of time spent on Facebook. 95% of Israelis between the ages 15-28 own a Facebook account.
  • Every 100 Israelis will own 122 computers (First in the world)
  • “WiFi” is available to the public for free at universities, coffee shops, malls, hospitals, and even at the beaches. Almost every house in Israel is connected to the Internet. In Israel, everyone is online, all the time!
  • Proselytizing minors (under 18) is illegal in Israel. The Internet is both the best way for them to explore for themselves (as well as a point of reference for believing youth to send their friends to).
  • Today, if an Israeli googles “Messianic Jews” or “God” or “Yeshua” in Hebrew, the first...

Were you at CSU2011?  Even if you weren’t, today’s your opportunity to attend Brian Barela’s seminar, Taking MPD to the Next Level with Social Media.

Listen in
  • Open this link on the Staff Web. Scroll down to the seminars for Saturday, July 23rd. Brian’s talk is near the end of the list.
  • Download (either open or save) the seminar audio file.

Don’t be overwhelmed! Brian has a LOT of content, so you’ll probably want to save the file and listen several times.  Just pick out two things to try for now and come back to listen for your next steps after that. I don’t know how long these seminar files will be available, so that’s another good reason to save the file.  (I put several files on my MP3 player and listened during my workouts.)

Tastemakers, communities of creative participation, and unexpectedness. These are the three key elements that drive what videos go viral on youtube. Listen to this short TED presentation from youtube’s trends manager, Kevin Allocca – it’s well worth it.

Samsung unveiled their new Galaxy Beam phone at a conference in Barcelona this week.  It’s just a bit bigger than a mobile phone and pricey at this point. (I only saw it for sale on one website for $800.)

So, let’s dream a bit while we wait for the price to come down.

What can this phone do?

  • Projects videos, PowerPoints, and more, up to 50 ” wide (1.2 m) in high definition
  • Runs in a loop
  • Has a battery life of three hours and should last for two years
  • Needs a speaker accessory to project the sound for a large group

How could it be used for ministry now or in the future?

  • Show the Jesus film and/or short films (see first note)
  • Do a PowerPoint presentation for a team meeting on a retreat
  • Show a short video for MPD at a mission board meeting
  • And obviously, go just about anywhere (see first note)

What ideas do you have?
